Covid-19 Update: Face masks CANNOT be recycled. Do not put face masks in your blue bin.
What goes in your recycling bin
A successful recycling program is the best way to reduce waste and add years to the lifespan of an existing landfill, saving taxpayers millions of dollars in the creation of a new landfill.
Prince Albert currently diverts 24% of waste from the landfill through existing recycling efforts but we can do more with the help of our residents and businesses. The first step is to stop placing recyclable items into the garbage can. A few simple changes can mean a big difference.
Recycling in the Blue Bins
It is important that you only place recyclable materials in the blue bin. Bins that are contaminated with garbage often must be sent to the landfill. Be sure to check out the Easy Guide to Recycling to find out what should and shouldn't go in your blue bin.
Please note: Face masks CANNOT be recycled. Do not put face masks in your blue bin.
Blue Bin Contamination
Blue recycling bins are NOT for garbage. Garbage in a blue bin contaminates the entire load, sending all the recyclables to the landfill. If you are found to include garbage in your blue bin, it will be tagged to let you know of the violation. If your bin is tagged three times, your blue bin will be removed.
Recycle Bin Centres
There are six recycle bin centre locations in the City that can be used for surplus, residential recycling:
- 8th Street East Parking Lot (100 Block) – Beside the Royal Canadian Legion (2 bins)
- East End Hockey Rink – 12th Avenue East (5 bins)
- Materials Recovery Facility – 460 – 40th Street East (4 bins)
- Municipal Service Centre – 11 – 38th Street East (9 bins)
- Central Avenue and 15th Street East - East side of the overpass in the parking lot (3 bins)
- Olive Diefenbaker Drive - Parking lot located between the two schools (3 bins)
