Museums

Visit the museums and discover more about our area's rich and diverse history at one of Prince Albert's four museums: Prince Albert Historical Museum, The John and Oliver Diefenbaker Museum, Evolution of Education Museum and the Rotary Museum of Police and Corrections.

The museums are owned by the City of Prince Albert and operated by the Prince Albert Historical Society, a not-for-profit organization.

Prince Albert Historical Museum

Once Prince Albert's third fire hall, it was built in 1912 and used by the Prince Albert Fire Department until 1975. The Heritage (now Historical) Museum opened to the public in 1977.

The John and Olive Diefenbaker Museum

The Rt. Hon. John Diefenbaker lived in the house from 1947 to 1957, and the house is furnished with artifacts from both his Prince Albert and Ottawa homes.

Prince Albert Evolution of Education

This building, constructed in 1920, served as a one-room schoolhouse in Claytonville, an area 20 miles northeast of Prince Albert that was named after postmaster Clayton Smith.

Rotary Museum of Police and Corrections

The museum opened in 1985 in one of the original buildings from the Northwest Mounted Police Barracks, constructed in 1888, once located on the Peter Ballantyne Urban Reserve
