The City’s annual budget helps ensure property tax dollars are invested in services, infrastructure, and community priorities that enhance quality of life while maintaining long-term financial sustainability. The budget supports key priorities such as infrastructure renewal, road maintenance, and safe neighbourhoods.
Administration prepares the proposed budget each year and presents it to the Budget Committee for review. The process considers community feedback and direction provided by City Council before the budget is finalized.
Each year, City Council approves five separate budgets:
Funds the City's day-to-day operations and services. Revenue comes from a variety of sources, including property taxes. Services funded through the General Budget include:
Funds the treatment and distribution of drinking water, wastewater collection and treatment, and stormwater management. This budget is funded through utility user fees.
Funds the development of residential, commercial, and industrial properties. Revenue is generated through land sales.
Funds landfill operations and recycling services. Revenue comes from user fees and sanitation surcharges.
Funds the operation of Prince Albert Airport through user fees and general operations support.

The approved 2019 Budget includes the City's general, utility (water and sewer), sanitation, airport and land operations.
Prince Albert City Council approved the 2018 municipal budget for all operations including general, utility (water and sewer), sanitation, airport and land. With the deep provincial cuts to cities funding, the shortfall was dealt with through a combination of increases to revenues and decreases to operating expenses.

In accordance with Saskatchewan's The Cities Act, the City of Prince Albert publishes a list of the names, job titles, salaries, and total taxable benefits of employees exceeding $50,000, City Council salaries and travel expenses, third-party payments, grant payments, and consolidated entities every year.
