Parks and Trails

There are many natural areas and green spaces in the city of Prince Albert where you can enjoy nature and outdoor activities.

Parks

The City of Prince Albert has more than 1300 acres of parkland and over 35 parks. Read The Recreation Facilities and Parks Bylaw for more details on how the City provides for the use, maintenance and operation of the facilities and parks. A number of these parks have picnic areas, green spaces and playing fields that you can rent.

Learn about booking and renting a facility or outdoor space.

See our Parks Map for a listing of all parks located within the City.

Trails

Prince Albert has over 23 km of paved trails throughout the city known as the Rotary Trail. This urban trail travels along the historic North Saskatchewan River. Little Red River Park also offers a variety of natural and groomed trails for cross country skiing, walking, and biking.

Pesticide & Herbicide Spraying

Pesticides are products used to kill plants, insects and plant diseases. Pesticides used on lawns and gardens include herbicides (which kill plants), insecticides (which kill insects) and fungicides (which kill fungi).

We apply some herbicides to control dandelions and other broad leaf weeds. This is done once every year or two to sport fields, approximately every three to four years in high weed density areas.

Notice

We do not have a formal spraying schedule and do not provide residents with application dates in advance as the window of application is dependent on the weather and staffing availability.

We take the health and well-being of citizens and green spaces seriously, so all herbicides and pesticides are carefully chosen and are fully certified by both the federal and provincial governments.

Signage is posted on-site and in the table below after any necessary application.

Vehicle Access within Parks and Green Spaces

No unauthorized vehicles are allowed in our parks without written consent ahead of time. The only exception is City vehicles and staff who are there to provide services at the park. Requests should be made two to four weeks before the event by completing and submitting the Vehicle Access Application. If approved, you will be provided a letter with instruction on where the vehicle will be allowed to travel and how long it is allowed to remain in the park.

In accordance with the Recreation Facilities and Public Parks Bylaw No. 13 of 2018, Police and Bylaw Services monitor city parks and have the ability to immobilize or seize vehicles found to be trespassing unlawfully.

We value our parks including the time and energy put into maintaining them and the costs associated with operating them. We want to ensure the parks are in great condition for everyone. We appreciate support from the organizing groups planning events in our outdoor spaces.
