Water Treatment Plant Public Art Collaboration
The City of Prince Albert is pleased to share a new video showcasing the Water Treatment Plant Youth Public Art Project, an innovative collaboration that brought together youth, educators, artists, and community partners to explore the importance of clean water and create a lasting public artwork for the community.
The project was led through the City's Municipal Cultural Action Plan (MCAP) and brought together the Saskatchewan Council for International Cooperation (SCIC), École St. Mary High School, Water Treatment Plant staff, and artist Cheryl Buckmaster, in a unique learning experience that combined art, environmental education, and community engagement.
"The project demonstrates the power of bringing together education, art, and civic infrastructure," said Tia Holash, Arts & Culture Coordinator for the City of Prince Albert. "By placing youth at the center of the creative process, we not only created a meaningful piece of public art, but also fostered a deeper appreciation for one of our community's most valuable resources. We hope the artwork and accompanying video encourage residents to think about the role we all play in protecting our water."
The newly released video documents the journey from the project's early concept through the water treatment plant tour, classroom workshops, artistic process, and the completed installation. Through interviews with students, educators, and project partners, it highlights how hands-on learning and creative expression can inspire a greater understanding of environmental stewardship and the importance of clean, safe drinking water.
The City of Prince Albert invites residents to watch the video and reflect on the importance of protecting the North Saskatchewan River and the shared responsibility of safeguarding clean water for future generations. The artwork can be seen in person by booking a tour of the Water Treatment Plant.
