Street Sweeping to start May 4, 2026

City crews will begin full street sweeping operations during the week of May 4, 2026, starting with high-traffic arterial roads.

“The late spring and slow thaw have impacted the timing of our street cleaning program,” said Jim Kereluk, Roadways Manager. “Sweeping can only take place once temperatures are consistently above zero to ensure effective results.”

Street sweeping follows a priority sequence, beginning with arterial streets, then collector roads, and finally residential areas.

Lane painting will also begin later than usual, with contractors scheduled to start after the May long weekend.

“It’s important that debris is fully removed from road surfaces before lane painting begins,” said Kereluk. “Proper street cleaning helps ensure the paint adheres correctly and lasts as long as possible.”

Motorists are reminded to keep a safe distance from street-sweeping equipment, as visibility may be reduced by dust and flying debris.
