Secretary of State Belanger Tours LCCLC

The City of Prince Albert was pleased to welcome Secretary of State Buckley Belanger for a visit and tour of the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre on May 2nd, 2026.
The visit follows the recent 2026 Spring Economic Update by Prime Minister Carney, which outlined a $755 million allocation to sport over the next five years. The new funding program is expected to expand access to sport, creating opportunities for Canadians to build meaningful relationships within their communities and make full use of existing and new recreation infrastructure.
Secretary Belanger met with community members, Mayor Bill Powalinsky and councillors to highlight key investments from the Spring Economic Update that support sport, community, and recreation, and stated, “Canada is a sporting nation. Whether it’s the Northern Games, lacrosse, ice hockey, soccer, curling, basketball or parasports, communities love to come together to cheer on their friends and neighbours. I know what sport has meant to me throughout my life, and investments like these will help ensure that communities across Saskatchewan have access to the infrastructure they need to stay active and connected.”
Mayor Powalinsky, who participated in the tour on Saturday, stated, “We were honoured to welcome Secretary of State Belanger to Prince Albert and showcase the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre, which was made possible through government partnerships. The new federal allocation for sport strengthens our ability to pursue future partnerships, including funding for priority projects such as a proposed Convention and Cultural Event Centre that would further bring people together and support economic and cultural growth in our community.”
The City of Prince Albert remains committed to investing in recreation and community infrastructure that meet the needs of residents and contribute to the overall quality of life.
