Residents Encouraged to Complete 2026 Census to Support Prince Albert’s Future
The City of Prince Albert is encouraging residents who have not yet completed their 2026 Census questionnaire to do so as soon as possible.
Official Census follow-up activities have been underway since May 12, with Statistics Canada employees contacting residents by phone and email, while field staff continue conducting in-person visits to households that have not yet responded.
A strong Census response helps ensure Prince Albert has accurate population data to support future planning, decision-making and access to programs and services. A complete Census count provides governments and community partners with reliable information to better understand local needs and plan for the future.
“Folks, the bottom line is that every head counted means federal and provincial money for the city. We strongly believe the last Census undercounted our population, and we lost grants and funding like crazy,” said Mayor Bill Powalinsky. “The bottom line is that it is important for so many reasons. But what it comes back to is that it provides funding to do projects and to support the community, and that is Mission-critical.”
How to Complete Your Census
Residents who have not yet completed their Census questionnaire can participate through the following official methods:
Online: Complete the questionnaire quickly and securely by entering your 16-digit access code on the Statistics Canada Census Portal.
By Phone: Call the official Census Help Line at 1-833-852-2026 to complete the questionnaire directly with a Statistics Canada agent. For TTY hearing/speech impaired service, call 1-833-830-3109.
In Person: Statistics Canada field workers can assist residents in completing the questionnaire securely during a doorstep visit.
By Mail: Residents who received a paper questionnaire can complete and return it by mail.
Residents are reminded that official Census workers can be verified to ensure their safety and security:
- Phone calls: Legitimate Census calls from Statistics Canada will display “GOC / GDC” on the caller ID.
- Doorstep visits: All official Census workers carry a photo identification card issued by Statistics Canada. Residents are encouraged to ask to see this identification.
Completing the Census takes only a few minutes but plays an important role in ensuring Prince Albert has the information needed to plan for future growth, services, and investments.
