New Year-Round Washroom Facility Opens at Little Red River Park

The City of Prince Albert is pleased to announce the opening of a new public washroom facility at Little Red River Park beginning Wednesday, August 26 at 7:30 a.m.

The new facility represents a significant enhancement for park users, providing accessible, modern washrooms available year-round. Both washrooms are heated and air-conditioned, helping ensure a comfortable and reliable experience for visitors in every season.

The opening follows months of planning, coordination, and preparation involving multiple City departments and project partners. Work included installing required signage, meeting permit and building code requirements, completing new accessible decking, testing electrical systems, and ensuring all operational components were in place and functioning properly.

"This new facility is an important addition to Little Red River Park and will provide visitors with a modern, accessible amenity they can enjoy throughout the year," said Timothy Yeaman, Parks and Open Spaces Manager. "The opening reflects the dedication and collaboration of many City staff who worked diligently to ensure the facility was ready, safe, and easy to operate. We're excited to welcome residents and visitors to use it."

Visitors are reminded that the water supplied in the washroom facility is non-potable and not intended for drinking. It should not be used for consumption, food preparation, or filling water bottles. The water is intended for handwashing and washroom operations only. Signage has been installed at the facility to clearly identify the non-potable water supply.

The washrooms will initially operate on a trial basis from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, until October 31, 2026. Operating hours will be reassessed following the trial period.

The trial period will allow City staff to better understand the day-to-day operation of the facility, including its electrical systems, septic and water servicing requirements, and the performance of various components to ensure everything is operating as intended.

During the trial period, visitors will continue to have access to the park's existing outhouses and facilities at Cosmo Lodge as needed. These facilities will continue to be serviced and stocked daily, with pump-outs performed as required.

The timing of the opening is especially timely, as schools resume for the fall season and land-based learning opportunities expand throughout the park. The new facility will support students, educators, community groups, and visitors who use Little Red River Park's trails, outdoor education spaces, and recreational amenities.

Little Red River Park is one of Prince Albert's premier outdoor recreation destinations, welcoming residents and visitors year-round for hiking, cycling, cross-country skiing, educational programs, and nature-based activities.
