Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre Sees a Strong Start to 2026
Just over a year after opening, the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre is already making a significant impact in Prince Albert, with strong participation numbers that demonstrate the community's enthusiasm for the new facility.
Following a gradual opening in March 2025, the facility's January to June 2026 results indicate it is on track to meet, and possibly exceed, its projected annual admission targets.
More than 41,000 admissions were recorded at the aquatic centre during the first half of 2026 through general aquatic programming, including public swim, lane swim, aquafit, rentals, and similar activities (excluding swimming lessons). For comparison, the former Frank Dunn Pool's strongest year of operation, in 2022, recorded 19,352 admissions.
The facility has also significantly expanded access to swimming lessons. To date, approximately 1,467 lesson spaces have been offered, compared with about 750 spaces available annually in previous years. This increase is helping to address long-standing demand from families seeking access to swimming instruction.
"The growth in swimming lesson capacity is supported by increased staffing, an updated programming structure, and strong demand for lessons at the new facility," said Riley Janes, Acting Aquatics Manager. "We're seeing strong participation across all age groups, and it's rewarding to provide more opportunities for kids to develop these important life skills."
Overall, the Aquatic side of the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre remains on track to reach the projected 70,000 annual admissions for 2026, a milestone that reflects both community demand and the expanded recreation opportunities now available in Prince Albert.
In addition to serving local residents, the facility is generating benefits beyond its walls by enhancing the visitor experience for attendees of tournaments and events in the community.
"The facility is also seeing positive spillover from on-site tournaments and events, as visiting families use the aquatic amenities while attending sporting and community events in Prince Albert," said Jody Boulet, Director of Parks, Culture and Recreation. "This is very encouraging and shows how the Centre enhances the visitor experience while supporting recreation opportunities for residents."
The Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre features an aquatic centre with an 8-lane competition pool, a leisure, splash, and wave pool, a lazy river, a hot tub, two water slides, two NHL-sized arenas, and community gathering areas.
