The City of Prince Albert is pleased to announce Katie Gruber as the recipient of the 2026 City of Prince Albert Lifeguard Scholarship, valued at $2,000.
Established in 2023, the scholarship recognizes the achievements and contributions of City lifeguards, celebrating their dedication and accomplishments both in the workplace and beyond.
Katie has been employed with the City of Prince Albert since March 2025, working at both Kinsmen Water Park and the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre. Throughout her employment, she has served as a Lifeguard, Swim Instructor and Aquatic Team Lead, demonstrating leadership, professionalism and a strong commitment to aquatic safety. Katie is currently pursuing her nursing education at the University of Saskatchewan, with plans to build a career in healthcare.
“Katie’s dedication to her work, education and community represents exactly what this scholarship was created to recognize,” said Riley Janes, Acting Aquatics Manager. “She has made a positive impact on our aquatics team through her professionalism, commitment to safety and willingness to support those around her. Katie is a deserving recipient, and we are proud to recognize her achievements and support her continued education.”
For Katie, receiving the scholarship represents not only financial assistance but also encouragement as she continues her education and prepares for a career in healthcare. “This scholarship holds more meaning to me than just financial support. It represents encouragement, confidence and belief in my future,” said Gruber. “I am profoundly appreciative and committed to making the most of this opportunity. I want to send my sincere gratitude to the City of Prince Albert and Joden Haubrich for making this possible.”
The scholarship is made possible through the generous support of Joden Haubrich, whose contributions are matched by the City of Prince Albert. The City of Prince Albert also extends its appreciation to Joden Haubrich for her continued generosity and support of the scholarship program.
Katie will be formally recognized at an upcoming ceremony at the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre, with further details to be announced.
