Come From Away Show Announcement

Broadway North Theatre Company is proud to present its summer feature production, Come From Away, sponsored by The Malcolm Jenkins Family Foundation. The award-winning Canadian musical tells the remarkable true story of kindness, compassion, and human connection in the aftermath of one of the world's darkest days.

Set in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, Come From Away recounts the events following September 11, 2001, when 38 commercial aircraft carrying nearly 7,000 passengers were unexpectedly grounded. As the world's attention focused on the unfolding tragedy, the people of Gander opened their homes, schools, and hearts to thousands of stranded strangers from around the globe.

Winner of multiple Tony Awards and international acclaim, Come From Away has captivated audiences worldwide with its uplifting message of hope and resilience. Featuring an ensemble cast portraying both local residents and stranded passengers, the production brings to life the true stories of ordinary people who came together in extraordinary circumstances.

The musical features a stirring score inspired by traditional Newfoundland folk and Celtic music, including beloved songs such as "Welcome to the Rock" and "Me and the Sky." Through laughter, tears, and unforgettable music, audiences are reminded of the power of community and the impact of simple acts of kindness.

"I can't think of anything more appropriate on the 25th anniversary of 9/11 than having Come From Away grace the stage of the EA Rawlinson Centre," says Cory Philley, General Manager. "It's remarkable how this tiny community stepped up to help their neighbours, and it's a story I think we can all agree we need to be reminded of right now. Besides, it's got it all: laughter, a love story, and the undeniable music of Newfoundland that is the heartbeat of the show."
