City Reminds Transit Riders to Follow Fare Rules and Travel Guidelines

The City of Prince Albert is reminding transit users to familiarize themselves with transit fares and passenger guidelines before boarding the bus.

In recent months, the City has received numerous reports of passengers attempting to ride Transit with fraudulent, invalid, or misused fares. These incidents include the use of fake, photocopied, altered, expired, or ineligible bus passes; handwritten passes; the sharing or misuse of transfer tickets and bus passes; and passengers refusing to present valid proof of fare when requested.

These situations can delay service, disrupt other passengers, and create unnecessary challenges for transit operators. Passengers who refuse to comply with fare requirements or Transit rules may be denied boarding, and repeated violations may result in a review and possible restrictions on future use of transit.

"Non-compliance with transit rules is a serious issue that takes time away from regular operations, revenue to offset transit costs, and can impact the safety of transit drivers and passengers,” said Anna Dinsdale, Community Safety and Well-Being manager with the City of Prince Albert. “Transit rules are available online and clearly posted on every transit bus. We are asking for cooperation and compliance with these guidelines to ensure all passengers have a consistent experience when riding the bus.”

To help prevent misuse, passengers are encouraged to print their name on the back of their monthly bus pass. Transit operators may request government-issued photo identification to confirm ownership of a pass. Clearly identifying your pass may also help it be returned if it is lost and turned in.

The City also reminds residents that children under the age of 10 ride free only when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Children under 10 travelling alone must pay the regular fare or present a valid Child bus pass. Single fares are $3 and can be paid with exact cash when boarding.
