City Invites Partners To Shape Housing Strategy

Community meeting set for June 2 to gather input on draft Housing Action Plan

The City of Prince Albert is inviting representatives from business, finance, faith, housing, and government to participate in a community dialogue session on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, to help shape the City's draft Housing Strategy and Action Plan.

The session will be held on June 2 from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. at the Margo Fournier Arts Centre (Studio, 2nd floor, 1010 Central Avenue).

"Housing is not something the City can solve alone," said Michael Nelson, City of Prince Albert. "This meeting is about bringing the right partners to the table — builders, lenders, nonprofit housing providers, faith communities, and all five levels of government — to identify what we can accomplish together."

The meeting comes following the completion of the 2024 Prince Albert Housing Needs Assessment, which found that the City needs 1,097 new housing units by 2036 and must nearly double its current construction pace from 87 to 160 units per year. The assessment identified 230 individuals experiencing homelessness in the 2024 Point-in-Time Count, a gap of 1,470 affordable units, and 875 Indigenous households in core housing need.

Participants will review the draft Housing Strategy and Action Plan, take part in facilitated small group discussions, and provide feedback on barriers to housing construction, high-priority initiatives, and how the community can work together to set and meet housing targets.

Invitations have been extended to representatives from financial institutions, the homebuilding industry, community housing and service organizations, faith communities, and federal, provincial, municipal, First Nation, and Métis governments.
