Inner Latitude features local artists Wilna and Tia Furstenberg, a mother-daughter duo who both hold a BFA in studio art. This exhibition of charcoal drawings and oil paintings revolve around ideas of home, relationship, and identity. The Furstenbergs' 2005 immigration from South Africa to Canada is the foundation of this work, and has allowed for reflection on the past and present. Symbols of nature, different landscapes, and memories in these two countries overlap in each piece. Latitude is an important concept; it is the angular distance of a place north or south of the earth's equator, but when positioned inwardly, it can also be the distance between the head and heart. This exhibition was made possible thanks to SK Arts and their micro grant program.
