The Collaborative Groups Policy was approved by City Council at the May 11, 2026 City Council meeting, and was developed as a community engagement opportunity that brings together residents, community organizations, businesses, stakeholders, and subject matter experts to discuss municipal issues and share perspectives on topics that are important to the City of Prince Albert. 

Collaborative Groups provide Administration with valuable community input, ideas, and feedback that may be used to inform policies, programs, projects, and recommendations to City Council. These groups are intended to encourage meaningful dialogue, promote collaboration, and help ensure a variety of voices and experiences are considered in municipal decision-making.

Collaborative Groups are advisory in nature and do not have decision-making authority. Participation is voluntary and groups may be established for a specific project, issue, or area of interest identified by the City.

By participating in a Collaborative Group, you can:

  • Help shape future City initiatives, projects, and services.

The City welcomes applications from residents and individuals with a connection to Prince Albert who are interested in contributing their knowledge, experience, and perspectives. No prior municipal experience is required. The City encourages participation from individuals of diverse backgrounds, ages, cultures, abilities, neighbourhoods, and lived experiences to help ensure Collaborative Groups reflect the community they serve.

No. Collaborative Groups benefit from a variety of perspectives and experiences. You do not need prior municipal government experience to participate.

Applications are reviewed by Administration. Participants may be selected based on factors such as interest, experience, knowledge of the topic, stakeholder representation, and the City's goal of achieving diverse community perspectives.

The time commitment varies depending on the purpose of the group. Some groups may meet only a few times for a specific project, while others may meet periodically throughout the year.

Meetings may be held in person, virtually, or through a hybrid format. Details will be provided to participants when meetings are scheduled.

No. Collaborative Groups are advisory in nature and do not have decision-making authority. Decisions regarding City policies, programs, and services remain the responsibility of Administration and City Council.

Yes. Feedback gathered through Collaborative Groups helps Administration better understand community perspectives and may be considered when developing projects, policies, programs, reports, and recommendations.

Yes. Individuals may express interest in multiple topic areas or Collaborative Groups. Participation opportunities will depend on the needs of each group and the selection process.

Providing demographic information is optional. The information is collected to help the City understand who is participating and to support efforts to engage a broad and diverse range of community members. Demographic information is reported in aggregate form and is not used to evaluate individual applications.

Personal information collected through the application process is managed in accordance with applicable privacy legislation and is used for the purpose of administering the Collaborative Groups program and communicating with applicants.

Applicants will be contacted by Administration regarding the status of their application and any upcoming opportunities that match their interests.

You can still submit an expression of interest and identify the topics you are interested in. The City may contact you when future Collaborative Group opportunities become available.

Boards and Committees are formal bodies established by City Council with specific mandates and governance structures. Collaborative Groups are more flexible engagement opportunities that are created to gather community input, ideas, and feedback on specific topics, projects, or areas of interest. They are intended to support meaningful community engagement and collaboration with the City.
