Little Red River Park Closed as Precaution Amid Rising Water Levels

The City of Prince Albert is advising residents that Little Red River Park will close to the public effective 2:00 p.m. today as a precautionary measure while crews continue to monitor elevated river flows as seasonal melt continues.

Current water levels within the park remain manageable; however, forecasts indicate flows may increase over the weekend and into next week as warmer temperatures accelerate upstream snowpack melt. The temporary closure is intended to protect public safety and allow staff time to prepare should conditions change.

City staff are actively monitoring conditions daily and consulting with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, the Water Security Agency, and other agencies on preventive measures and flood protection strategies.

Crews will be working in the park assessing and implementing measures to help protect park infrastructure and reduce potential impacts if water levels continue to rise.

Rotary Adventure Playground and Ziplines: the construction has been designed as a flood-resilient playground better able to withstand flooding events.  The project, when undertaken, incorporated durable materials, thoughtful design, and adaptive features intended to minimize damage during periods of high water and reduce recovery time following flooding events.  By investing in resilient infrastructure, we are helping to ensure that this important community space can serve residents for years to come.

Residents are asked to respect all closures and signage and avoid entering the park until further notice. Updates will be provided as conditions evolve.
