A new Audio Video System is now installed in the Council Chamber at City Hall adding a number of advanced solutions for more efficient and accessible meetings. The new system allows for tele-conference, video conference, live online streaming, and a control queuing system for speaking turns and voting.
With the new system, all parties can be accommodated safely during meetings which will ensure that quorum will be met, and decisions will continue to be made on time during the ongoing pandemic. The public will also be able to watch safely from home with online streaming starting April 12.
“There has been a need for a new system for a number of years, but the pandemic accelerated discussions,” said Sherry Person, City Clerk. “Participants can now join us from any distance, including presenters and members of Council if needed, and for the first time the public can now watch live online.”
Originally installed in 1984, the previous system had only one major update in 2006 with a few additions and upgrades in recent years. With dated technology, virtual meetings were difficult to accommodate and live streaming options were cumbersome.
“Video conferencing has become the new standard with more and more people relying on this method of communication for meetings. With a streamlined process everyone will be able to participate with ease,” said Mayor Greg Dionne. “We’ve invested in technology that will serve us well now and into the future.”
All City Council and Executive Committee meeting live streams will be hosted on the City of PA Council and Committee Meetings YouTube Channel. Recorded meetings will also be posted. Watch for the first City Council live stream on Monday, April 12, 2021 at 5:00pm. Shaw Cable will continue to broadcast Council meetings live on Channel 10.
See the Council and Committee Calendar for all upcoming meetings and agenda packages which are posted on the Thursday prior to the meeting.
