COVID-19 has been confirmed in Canada and yesterday a case in Saskatoon was considered probable. The risk of contracting COVID-19 in Prince Albert and province-wide remains low, but this could change quickly. Like other Saskatchewan cities, the City of Prince Albert is following the lead of the Saskatchewan Health Authority.
The City of Prince Albert is monitoring the situation closely with emergency operations staff and City Council and will be referring to the City of Prince Albert’s Pandemic plan for guidance on next steps.
At this stage, the City of Prince Albert is focusing on informing our staff and planning for future measures should the situation worsen.
During any emergency or large-scale event, it is essential to follow accurate, factual, locally specific sources of information. We encourage residents to closely review the materials available on the Government of Saskatchewan’s website at www.saskatchewan.ca/coronavirus It is the best source of information on this evolving situation, and is updated regularly.
City of Prince Albert public facilities
At this time all City of Prince Albert public facilities remain open. The City will be taking appropriate precautions as needed which may include additional cleaning requirements and assessment of programs and provision of services. As indicated by Sask Health, with the risk of Canadians low, business closures due to COVID-19 is not recommended.
Events in Prince Albert
The decision to cancel an event is up to the person or organization hosting the event. If you have an event scheduled at a City facilities, we encourage you to closely review the Government of Canada’s Risk-informed decision-making for mass gatherings during COVID-19 global outbreak and Saskatchewan Health’s Mass Gatherings, Risk for Elderly Populations document. These files provide some of the information you will require to make a decision on whether to host an event.
Precautionary Measures
While the risk of acquiring COVID-19 in Prince Albert remains low, it is critical that residents be reminded to follow all of the recommendations from Saskatchewan Health Authority to take precautions to protect themselves. Wash your hands frequently, practice good cough and sneeze hygiene and stay home if you are sick.
