Users of Little Red River Park should expect intermittent closures within parts of the park as construction crews begin to mobilize and work on the installation of the three pedestrian bridges during the month of April. The work on replacing the three bridges started in October 2021 and will see its conclusion by June 2022.
The Kinsmen Ski and Snow Board Centre will close on Monday March 28th, to allow crews to plow open roads for construction access to the Bridge (currently known as the Lion's Bridge) from both sides of the river.
"All three bridges will be replaced with prefabricated steel structures arriving in April and the installation process will mandate closures to give the construction crews safe access." says Nykol Miller, Capital Projects Manager, City of Prince Albert.
The three bridges that will be replaced are:
- The Sliding Hill Bridge located across from the toboggan hill.
- The bridge located at the Cosmo Lodge currently known as the 'Lion's Bridge'.
- The bridge located below the upper plains of Little Red currently known as the 'Sport's Council Bridge'.
Other exciting upgrades that are part of the LRRP Stages of Development Report approved during the 2022 budget deliberations include:
- Major parking improvements (including accessible parking) at the toboggan hill, the Cosmo Lodge, and the parking lot south of the Cosmo Lodge.
- Installation of Rotary Adventure Park and Zip Line.
- Parking Lot lighting improvements.
"There will be some disruptions during all phases of the construction period this spring/summer and we ask users and visitors to be patient as we work through the process to deliver lasting legacy infrastructure upgrades for Little Red," says Tim Yeaman, Parks Manager for the City of Prince Albert.
Users and residents are encouraged to subscribe to the City's news updates and follow the City of Prince Albert's Facebook and Instagram pages where more details and timelines about closures will be posted and communicated in a timely manner.
