The City of Prince Albert wants to remind residents that proper recycling is critical to an effective recycling program. Only approved items should be placed in your blue bin, or the entire load can end up at the landfill.
With yard waste season in full swing, sanitation drivers report increased recycling bins with yard waste and other unsuitable items.
Material that CAN be placed in your blue bin:
- Paper and cardboard
- Clean metal food cans and foil
- Beverage containers (milk, juice, water, soda)
- Plastic jugs, bottles and food containers (1-7)
Residents are also reminded that household garbage, Styrofoam, mixed packaging, and building materials cannot be placed in the blue bins. These items end up contaminating large portions of the load and as a result they have to be rerouted to the landfill.
These items cannot be recycled and should only be disposed of in green garbage bins.
Other unsuitable materials for recycling bins are:
- Household garbage
- Yard or food waste
- Styrofoam or other packing materials
- Wood, dirt or concreate
- Soiled paper or cardboard
- Clothing
