Pruning Ban for Elm Trees Lifted

The City of Prince Albert wants to advise residents that the ban on pruning elm trees has been lifted. A ban from April 1st, 2025, to August 31st, 2025, was in effect in accordance with provincial regulations. The ban ensures that elm bark beetles, which transmit Dutch elm disease (DED), are not attracted to the pruning cuts when these beetles are most active.

Elm removal can occur at any time of the year; however, the entire tree must be removed, and all waste elm must be transported to the nearest approved landfill site in the municipality where the elm was removed.  The City’s landfill, located north of Prince Albert, is an approved site in Prince Albert.  Please note that there will be a fee for commercial hauling of green waste.
