Prince Albert Minor Football Association Honours Wendell Whitter with Field Dedication
The Prince Albert Minor Football Association (PAMFA) is proud to announce that the Crescent Heights Football Field has been officially renamed Wendell Whitter Field, in honour of the late Wendell Whitter, a longtime volunteer, coach, and builder of youth football in the community.
The renaming ceremony occurred on Saturday morning, with family, friends, and city officials in attendance, including Ward 8 Councillor Darren Solomon, whose son played for the River Riders program. A commemorative sign, proudly reading “Wendell Whitter Field – Home of the Prince Albert Minor Football Association,” was unveiled on the exterior of the nearby Crescent Heights Arena.
Wendell Whitter was a central figure in Prince Albert Minor Football, coaching the River Riders pee wee football teams from the program’s inception in 2008 until his passing in 2018. Beyond football, Whitter was active in the community as a pastor and a coach in other sports, including archery and hockey. His dedication to youth sport and community development helped PAMFA earn recognition as the 2018 Sport Organization of the Year by the Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame. In 2022, Whitter was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a Builder, honoring his decades of leadership and service.
“Wendell Whitter’s contributions have shaped the culture of football in Prince Albert and inspired generations of young athletes,” said Taras Kachkowski, President of the Prince Albert Minor Football Association. “Naming the Crescent Heights Football Field in his honor is a meaningful way to recognize his legacy and ensure his impact is remembered for years to come.”
The Crescent Heights Football Field, located between Branion Drive and Cook Drive, is home to the Prince Albert Minor Football Association and the River Riders Football Program. The City of Prince Albert owns and maintains the facility through the Parks Division, while PAMFA provides ongoing volunteer support for its upkeep—a role Whitter has devoted countless hours to over the years.
