Prince Albert Airport Launches Seasonal Wildlife Management Plan

The public is advised that loud noises may occasionally be heard in the vicinity of the Prince Albert Glass Field Airport while the Airport Wildlife Management Plan (AWMP) is in effect.

The AWMP is a seasonal initiative aimed at promoting aviation safety by reducing wildlife hazards and associated risks to aircraft operations. Wildlife, particularly birds, can pose a serious risk to aircraft during critical phases of flight. The plan helps mitigate these risks by actively managing wildlife activity on and around airport grounds.

As part of this plan, the Airport will be using pyrotechnics to safely deter birds and other wildlife. Pyrotechnics may include shell crackers, flares, firecrackers, and rockets. These tools produce loud noises and flashes of light that serve as an effective deterrent—especially against game birds familiar with the sound of firearms.

“Pyrotechnics are a key component of a well-balanced wildlife management program,” said Robert Manlig, CM, Airport Manager. “They are highly effective for quickly dispersing birds and minimizing potential hazards to aircraft.”

The program is an important part of the airport’s commitment to maintaining a safe environment for passengers, pilots, and ground crews.
