City of Prince Albert Celebrates Official Opening of New Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre

The City of Prince Albert is excited to announce the grand opening of the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre on Friday, September 5, 2025. This milestone marks the completion of the largest recreational infrastructure project in the city's history, providing a new home for aquatics and arena programming for residents and visitors alike.

Construction of the facility began in July 2022 and was completed in February 2025. The $117 million project was made possible through support from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP), including a $24 million contribution from the Government of Canada, and a $19.9 million investment from the Province of Saskatchewan. The City of Prince Albert funded the remainder of the infrastructure project.

“Infrastructure and investments in our communities create excitement and memories for future generations,” Minister of Government Relations Eric Schmalz said. “Facilities like the Lake Country Co-Op Leisure Centre are a community gathering spot and drive expanding economic opportunities that lay the foundation for a strong, safe and secure Saskatchewan today and in the years to come.”

In October 2024, the City of Prince Albert announced a significant partnership with Lake Country Co-op, securing a major private investment in the new recreation centre. Lake Country Co-op committed $10 million through a 25-year agreement, payable over the term, demonstrating its strong dedication to supporting youth, families, and the continued growth of Prince Albert. This legacy sponsorship grants Lake Country Co-op exclusive naming rights to the new facility for 25 years. The recreation centre is now officially known as the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre.

“We’re extremely proud to open this state-of-the-art facility officially,” said Mayor Bill Powalinsky. “This centre is more than a simple building — it’s an investment in our community’s health, well-being, and future. We thank our partners for helping make this dream a reality — the Canadian and Saskatchewan Governments."

The Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre features:

  • A 47,000 sq. ft. aquatics area with an 8-lane competitive pool, splash and wave pool, lazy river, whirlpool, and two waterslides.
  • A 77,995 sq. ft. twin arena complex with two NHL-sized rinks, larger dressing rooms, and expanded spectator seating
  • Accessibility upgrades throughout, including 271 seats in the South Arena (with seven wheelchair spaces) and 522 in the North Arena (with twelve wheelchair spaces)
