Effective May 5, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., a Fire Ban has been declared for all areas north of the North Saskatchewan River within the City of Prince Albert.
Based on current and forecasted conditions from the Fire Weather Index for the grassland and forest fringe areas, this fire ban applies to the following locations:
- Little Red River Park
- Hazeldell
- Nordale
- All properties east of Little Red River Park to the City Limits at the Pulp Haul Road
During this ban, no open fires are permitted in these areas. However, for cooking and heating purposes, the following devices are allowed:
- Self-contained heating devices
- Gas barbecues
- Propane fire pits
- Charcoal briquettes are used in an approved fire pit
Can I have a fire in the City (south of the river)?
Yes—but only in accordance with Bylaw No. 15 of 2021, which governs fire use within the City of Prince Albert. Prince Albert is always under an open fire ban unless fires comply with this bylaw. The use of fire pits, barbecues, propane heaters, and patio heaters is permitted only if they meet the requirements of Bylaw 15 of 2021. In fire pits, only charcoal or cut, seasoned wood is allowed (no garbage, yard waste, etc).
The current fire ban does not affect recreational use of approved fire pits in designated areas south of the river, such as Kinsmen Park.
This fire ban for the city’s northern area will remain in effect until further notice.
