Frank J. Dunn Pool Closing – An End of an Era

The Saskatchewan Rivers School Division and the City of Prince Albert are preparing to bid farewell to the Frank J. Dunn Pool, a cornerstone for swimming, physical education, and community recreation for over five decades. As the community looks to the future, the state-of-the-art Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre will open in the spring of 2025, marking a new chapter in local aquatics and recreation.

Built in 1973-74, the Frank J. Dunn Pool is owned by the Saskatchewan Rivers School Division but has been jointly operated by the SRSD and the City of Prince Albert. Over the years, it has provided countless opportunities for students and residents, from swimming lessons to recreational programs. However, as the new Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre nears completion, the Frank J. Dunn Pool will begin phasing out community use and moving towards closure.

The new Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre represents a significant investment in Prince Albert’s future, offering modern amenities, expanded programming, and enhanced user experiences. This transition ensures that students and residents can enjoy state-of-the-art facilities that cater to the needs of a growing and vibrant community.

“The Frank J. Dunn Pool holds a special place in the hearts of many,” said Jody Boulet, Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture for the City of Prince Albert. “While it’s bittersweet to see it retire, the new Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre will provide even greater opportunities for recreation and education.”

Mike Hurd, Superintendent of Facilities for the Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division, added: “The Frank J. Dunn Pool has been an iconic part of our school and community life. Its closure is the end of an era, but we’re excited for the future with this exceptional new facility.”

The City of Prince Albert and Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division are committed to ensuring a smooth transition as the community moves forward with the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre.
