As construction season gets underway, the City of Prince Albert is reminding residents, contractors, tradespeople, and business operators that a valid business license and the appropriate building permits are required before commencing any work within city limits.
Whether you're building, renovating, or offering services such as plumbing, electrical work, or landscaping, a current business license is required for all commercial activity, even if you’re based outside of Prince Albert. These licenses ensure businesses operate safely, fairly, and in compliance with local regulations.
Additionally, building permits are essential for most construction and renovation projects, whether residential or commercial. This includes new buildings, structural renovations, repairs, decks, garages, and other related projects. Permits help ensure projects meet building codes, safety standards, and zoning regulations, protecting everyone involved.
“Starting a project without the necessary permits can lead to delays and extra costs down the road,” says Michael Nelson, Planning and Development Manager for the City. “We’re here to help make sure everything is in order from the beginning.”
If you're unsure whether you need a permit or license, please don’t hesitate to contact our office. Our staff is happy to walk you through the requirements and help you get started on the right foot.
