Elm trees in Kinsmen Park will be treated with a protective fungicide on Friday, August 22, as part of the City of Prince Albert’s efforts to safeguard its American elm population from Dutch Elm Disease (DED).
The treatment involves injecting Arbotect 20-S, a systemic fungicide, into the base of the trees. Once absorbed, the fungicide moves into the tree’s new growth to provide multi-year protection against DED. Living Tree Environmental delivers the injections, which are expected to be completed by the end of the day on Friday.
This work builds on elm disease surveillance surveys completed earlier this summer, which included a canopy scan of all elm trees within city limits to identify diseased or hazardous trees and check for violations of Provincial DED Regulations.
The City plans to expand elm injection treatments to additional trees in June 2026, strengthening long-term protection for Prince Albert’s urban forest.
