Prince Albert, SK – Shayla Preston has been awarded the 2025 City of Prince Albert Lifeguard Scholarship. The scholarship is valued at $2,000. Created in 2023, the scholarship was created to celebrate and highlight the achievements of lifeguards both inside and outside the workplace.
Shayla has been a lifeguard with the City of Prince Albert since 2020. Shayla has worked in various positions at the Frank J. Dunn Swimming Pool, Kinsmen Water Park, and is part of the team preparing for the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre opening. Completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) this spring at the University of Saskatchewan Shayla is eager to become a Registered Nurse (RN).
“I [am] incredibly grateful for my time with the City of Prince Albert Aquatics Department. This job has not only prepared me professionally but has also shaped me into a more confident, capable, and compassionate person,” said Shayla.
“Shayla has an infectious positive attitude that she brings to the lifeguard team. She is friendly, honest, and a natural leader. Shayla’s not only an asset to the City of Prince Albert aquatics team – but to the community. Her passion for water safety, accountability, and teamwork have been an amazing asset this 2025 season,” says Lauren Haubrich, Recreation Coordinator for Aquatics. “The lifeguard team is made up of remarkable individuals and that is demonstrated through the excellent scholarship applicants each year.”
A special ceremony will be held at the Kinsmen Water Park at a later date.
