The Budget provides value for property tax dollars by investing in services that enhance our quality of life and build for the future in a financially responsible manner. It meets community priorities in infrastructure renewal, roads and safe neighbourhoods.
The proposed budget is prepared by Administration and forwarded to the Budget Committee for preliminary review, taking into consideration both community input and direction from City Council.
Each year, City Council approves an annual budget, made up of five parts:
- General Budget is for the City's general operations and is funded by a variety of sources, including taxation. The General Budget covers the majority of City of Prince Albert departments, including police, fire, streets and roads, transit operations, parks, recreation, building maintenance, and administration.
- Water and Sewer Budget is for treating and distributing potable water, collecting and treating wastewater and collecting/managing storm water. This budget is funded by user fees.
- Land Budget is for the cost of the development of residential, commercial and industrial properties. This budget is funded by land sales.
- Sanitation Budget is for the operation of the City's landfill and recycling program and is funded by user fees and sanitation surcharges.
- Airport Budget is for operations at the Airport, which is funded by user fees and a transfer from general operations.
