Being a community member is a responsibility and we can all work together to maintain a positive relationship with those in our neighborhood, which can improve everyone's quality of life.

Tips for being a good neighbour:

  1. Introduce Yourself: Say hello and introduce yourself when you move in.
  2. Be Friendly and Respectful: Greet neighbors with a smile and be courteous.
  3. Keep Noise Down: Be mindful of noise levels, especially at night.
  4. Maintain Your Property: Keep your yard and home tidy.
  5. Help Out: Offer to help with small tasks like shoveling snow or bringing in trash bins.
  6. Communicate: Talk to your neighbors about any concerns in a calm and respectful manner.
  7. Respect Privacy: Give your neighbors space and privacy.
  8. Be Considerate with Parking: Park in a way that doesn't block driveways or take up too much space.
  9. Share Information: Let neighbors know if you’re having a party or if there are changes in the neighborhood.
  10. Watch Out for Each Other: Keep an eye on each other's homes, especially when someone is away.
  11. Be a responsible pet owner: Keep your dog’s barking to a minimum and don’t let your cats stray into neighbours’ yards.
  12. Put your garbage in a litter bin and ask gently remind others to do the same.

September 19, 2024 Media Release

The Prince Albert Police Service, together with the Community Safety and Well Being initiative of the City of Prince Albert, is proud to announce its participation in the Safe Neighbourhood Camera Registry (SNCR), a Canada-wide initiative designed to enhance community safety through collaboration between residents and local law enforcement.

The SNCR encourages residents to register their outward-facing security cameras with the Prince Albert Police Service. By joining this registry, residents are indicating their willingness to share camera footage with the police if an incident occurs in their area. This voluntary program is a valuable tool for law enforcement, enabling quicker access to potential evidence and aiding in the swift resolution of investigations.

“Partnerships with external organizations like Forrest Green are crucial in our ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and ensure effective law enforcement. Their involvement in creating a safe neighbourhood camera registry will expedite our investigative processes, allowing us to identify and apprehend offenders swiftly. We are committed to fostering strong collaborations with our community, encouraging residents to participate in programs that bolster our collective security. Together, we can build a safer environment for all,” says Chief of Police Patrick Nogier.

Mayor Greg Dionne also supports the initiative: "The Safe Neighbourhood Camera Registry is a shining example of how we can work together to make our city safer. By participating, residents can play an active role in protecting their neighbourhoods, and I encourage everyone to consider joining this valuable program."

“I am asked many times what residents can do to make Prince Albert safer. This program is probably one of the best ways to get involved in Community Safety. It is a small action with significant consequences. Help protect your property, family, and community by registering your doorbell and outdoor security cameras with the Safe Neighbourhood Camera Registry,” says Anna Dinsdale, Community Safety and Well-Being Manager for the City of Prince Albert.

Upon registering, consent is only given to the police agency in your justification. The Safe Neighbourhood Camera Registry and Prince Albert Police Service cannot access your Camera. You are simply registering that you have a camera and would be willing to share footage in the event of an incident in your area. At any point, you can withdraw your consent from the program. Residents are also not obligated to hand over footage of their feeds if asked. This is a voluntary program.

The Prince Albert Police Service urges residents to consider joining the Safe Neighbourhood Camera Registry and contributing to the safety and security of their community.
