Data - CSWB

Data plays a crucial role in establishing baselines, understanding needs, allocating resources, and measuring impact.  It supports open and transparent communication about complex issues.  Data only tells one part of the story and that it needs to be understood within a broader context and over time.

The City of Prince Albert is developing a Community Safety and Well-Being Dashboard which will make data available to the public.

Report the Location

Report the locations of discarded needles through the Needle Pick-Up Form. Data gathered from forms like this will direct action and attention to the areas where it is most needed.

Needle Pick Up Information

People use needles for many different purposes. The Straight to the Point Harm Reduction Program through Saskatchewan Health provides education, awareness, guidance and supplies for safe needle clean up.

Access Place

What is encampment data?

Encampment data refers to information collected about temporary or semi-permanent campsites or encampments. This can include details about the location, size, amenities, usage patterns, and any other relevant factors.

How is encampment data collected?

Encampment data is primarily collected through submissions from the public. Residents can report concerns or provide information by using the City of Prince Albert’s online "Submit a Bylaw Concern" form.

How accurate are the map points?

The accuracy of the map points depends on the information submitted by the public. The points are only as reliable as the data provided through submissions.

How often is the data updated?

The data is updated every evening, ensuring that the most recent information is available.

How can I report an encampment?

To report an encampment, click on the "Report a Concern" link on the main page of the app. Please pinpoint the location of the encampment on the map and provide as much detail as possible. Thank you!

What is the GIS Dashboard

The GIS Crime Dashboard is an interactive platform that provides a visual representation of crime data within the city limits of Prince Albert. It allows users to explore and understand crime patterns and trends through various tools such as maps, charts, and filters.

How often is the crime data updated?

Crime data gets a refresh every Wednesday evening! After the Police manually process the data, it gets sent over to the GIS department. You can easily check the latest update date in the top left corner of the main map.

How accurate are the crime points on the map?

The crime points are mapped to the block where the incident happened—not the exact location. This keeps the location anonymous and ensures privacy is protected.  About 90% of reported crimes make it to the dashboard each week. The ones that don’t usually have missing or incomplete address information.

Are all crime categories included on the map?

Not exactly! The crime categories and subcategories get a bit of a makeover to simplify and generalize them before showing up on the map.
