Sidewalk Snow Removal
Sidewalk Snow Removal
For pedestrian safety and mobility, the City of Prince Albert's Snow and Ice Control Policy asks that property owners clear their sidewalks within 48 hours of a snowfall.
Sidewalk snow removal in the downtown area (Central Business District) is a requirement of the Clean Sidewalk Bylaw.
Golden Shovel Award
If you have someone that clears your sidewalk regularly, consider nominating them for the City's Golden Shovel Award. All you have to do is write a letter to the City telling us your story.
The Good Samaritan will receive a letter from the Mayor of Prince Albert thanking them on behalf of the entire City for making the extra effort to not only clear the sidewalk for their neighbour, but for all the pedestrians and meter readers that use the sidewalks throughout the winter. They will also receive a golden key chain as a token of the City's appreciation, and their name will be entered into a draw to receive one of the following prizes:
- A $100 gift certificate to the Alfred Jenkins Field House;
- A $100 gift certificate to the E.A. Rawlinson Centre;
- Vouchers for six Raider Hockey Games;
- Two adult green fees at the Cooke Municipal Golf Course
Two draws are made each winter season.
Nominations
Nominations for the 2021/2022 Golden Shovel Awards are now OPEN.
Excerpts from past nominations
“I live in BC but my Mom lives next door to Owen, (I'm here visiting her). He is the sweetest man ever. He shovels her sidewalk in the front, along with her half the driveway and also the sidewalk in the back from the house door all way to back fence. He does this every day it snows. But not only that, he takes her garbage cans out to back on pick up day and brings them back to the house. He helps my mom with fixes in her house and him and his wife check on my mom who will be 80 in July. Even though he is up in age also he helps my mom and I don't worry so much about her. I could never thank him enough for his kindness but I see the advertising for this shovel award and thought this way I can. If there was an award for citizen of the year, it should go to him. Please consider him because he deserves the award.” (Submission for Golden Shovel Award winner Owen Rance).
"Roger is the neighbour everyone wishes for. He greets everyone with his warm smile and big heart. To Roger, a neighbourhood is a place to build community and to give back. His watchful eye quickly identifies those in the neighbourhood who need a helping hand. This could be an elderly person who has limited mobility, a young busy family or people without the essential snow removal machines or tools. Roger shows up unannounced to shovel sidewalks, blow out drive ways or blow off steps. This is done witty sincerity and no expectation of being paid back. In his own words, “That is what good neighbours do- they help each other.” Roger is a most worthy recipient of the golden shovel award."
No matter how badly we get hit with snow this gentleman is out with his snowblower and shovel doing the whole blocks sidewalk and always clears the area in front to get to street. He even shoveled part of the alleyway before graders came down as many people where getting stuck. We only lived next door to him for a few months but he goes above and beyond and always keeps an eye on the yard. I dont personally know his name only talked to him over fence here and there but the fact he doesn't let the weather stop him from being so kind is amazing. No act of kindness goes unnoticed kind sir! Thank you so much!!
