Candidates are encouraged to read the 2020 Candidate Guide in full to understand what is required to be an elected official, including qualifications, nomination process, sign regulations and links. Please see the Local Government Election Act, 2015 and the City's Election Bylaw for complete details on the election process.
Nominations opened Monday, September 21, 2020 and closed Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. The final day for Withdrawal was Thursday, October 8, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.
Candidates must take into account, as you plan your campaign activities, the health and safety of yourself and your volunteers, as the general public depends on it.
Please ensure that you reference and rely on the full set of existing guidelines issued by the Province that align with campaign-related activities including distribution of campaign materials, outdoor and indoor campaign gatherings, campaigning at hospitals and personal care facilities and transporting voters to polling places. Qualifications for candidates |
A person may run for the office of a member of City Council or School Board Trustee if he/she:
Candidates for Councillor do not have to reside within the ward in which they are running; however, all of the people nominating the candidate must be electors of the ward. In the case of School Board elections, you must be a voter of the school division on the day of the election, to be nominated as a candidate. In the case of a separate school division election, an eligible nominator must be a voter of the separate school division in accordance with Subsection (36)(2) of The Local Government Election Act, 2015. |
Disqualifications for candidates |
You may not run for the office of City Council, if you are:
An employee of The City, Board or Joint Board, may seek nomination if he/she has first obtained a leave of absence in accordance with Subsection 2-54(2)(a) of The Saskatchewan Employment Act. |
