About the Show

Come From Away is the true story of what happened when the world came to Gander, Newfoundland. On September 11, 2001, as American airspace closed, 38 planes carrying thousands of passengers were diverted to this small town's airstrip. What began as a logistical crisis became something else entirely: an international sleepover. Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander met the stranded travelers with music, open bars, and the simple recognition that we are all part of one global family.

Written by Canadian husband-and-wife team Irene Sankoff and David Hein, the musical has become a worldwide phenomenon, winning Best New Musical at the 2019 Olivier Awards, Outstanding Musical at the 2017 Drama Desk Awards, and Best Direction of a Musical at the 2017 Tony Awards, where it received seven nominations including Best Musical. Two decades on, it remains a joyful, moving reminder of the kindness people are capable of when it matters most.
