Pine Needle Mountain Bike Festival Contributes to Little Red River Park
The City of Prince Albert is once again extending appreciation to the Pine Needle Mountain Bike and Music Festival for their 2019 contribution of $18,564 to the City for new LED trail lighting at Little Red River Park. A total of 101 lights have been replaced.
“We chose this project because it will help improve the lighting on the trail for all evening users as well as save a lot of money on power for the City,” said Mike Horn, Festival organizer. “It has be talked about for many years and we are excited that it has been completed.”
Funds are raised by the festival annually with $48,500 raised to date. Past projects at Little Red have included:
2014 Retaining Wall along the river trail
2015/2016 New fire pits
2017 New Water Fountain/Water Bottle Filling Station in Cosmo Lodge
“The Pine Needle Festival is an event that demonstrates the best of Prince Albert,” said Deputy Mayor Don Cody. “It attracts visitors from across the province and provides an incredible local festival option for families to enjoy in the summer. It’s a pleasure to see that the Pine Needle Mountain Bike festival would host this event and then turn around and invest the proceeds back into the park for the benefit of everyone. Thank-you to Mike Horn and the Festival volunteers for their work and for continuing to generously contribute to the Park.”
“Little Red is home to the festival so it’s a natural fit for us to take the dollars raised and direct them toward improvements at the Park,” said Horn. “Little Red is such a beautiful park and I’m grateful to have this kind of an asset right in Prince Albert’s backyard. Each small improvement helps to further enhance the user experience at the park.”
The Pine Needle Mountain Bike and Music Festival has been held in Little Red River Park for the last nine years. The festival attracts provincial participation and approximately 2000 spectators throughout the day. For more information on the Festival, please visit www.pineneedlebikefestival.com
Little Red River Park has a concession at the Cosmo Lodge, toboggan hill, ski and snowboard hill, snowshoeing and cross country ski trails. Other popular activities include walking, hiking, mountain biking, and use of fire pits and picnic shelters for family and group gatherings. The City is in the process of developing a Little Red River Park master plan to set a vision for the future of the park and help guide its implementation. Public consultation is now complete and the Master Plan is expected in 2020.
