The City of Prince Albert is monitoring the North Saskatchewan River following the spring ice break up that occurred at 3:00a.m. on Sunday, April 26, 2020. Higher than normal water levels this year has led to flooding along the riverbank, at Little Red River Park and various places along the Rotary Trail. The river rose to 6.584 metres in depth at its peak at 11:20a.m. this morning and at a flow of 2870m³/s.
“We have been actively monitoring the river and it appears it has peaked and levels are steadily declining,” said Wes Hicks, Director of Public Works for the City of Prince Albert. “There has been damage to sections of the rotary trail but the extent at this stage is unknown and will be assessed in the coming days.”
The City would like to advise the public that Little Red River Park and the Boat Launch are closed to the public.
The river break up has drawn people to the riverbank to take a look at the high, fast flowing river. Residents are reminded to refrain from gathering in crowds and maintain distances of two meters between one another.
