Prince Albert, Sask. –
Residents are reminded to “Wing in the New Year” by taking the free public transit offered from 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2019 until approximately 3:15 a.m. January 1, 2020.
For those needing accessible transportation they can call the Special Needs Transportation Dispatch at the Community Service Centre at (306) 953-4466.
“We want everyone to enjoy their New Year’s Eve, but we also want everyone to make it home safe,” said Minister Responsible for SGI Joe Hargrave. “So while you’re planning your festivities, also plan ahead for a safe ride home. SGI is proud to sponsor ‘Wing in the New Year’ as another great option.”
This year there are 5 routes that will service the City and all routes will meet at the downtown Central Transit Transfer Station.
“I am pleased that we have offered this program in Prince Albert for thirty years,” said Mayor Greg Dionne. “Thank-you to Minister Hargrave and SGI for their ongoing support to make it possible.”
Prince Albert Chief of Police Jonathan Bergen commends the efforts by SGI and the City of Prince Albert to encourage safe rides home for residents. “This partnership provides a safe, free and easily accessible option for anyone travelling on New Year’s Eve. We want everyone to arrive home safely, so if your celebrations include alcohol, please consider this Program.”
The bus routes are the same as daytime routes. The City would also like to encourage New Year’s riders to check out www.transitlivepa.com. This new tool allows users to track buses in real-time online so they can better plan their departure times and limit time spent in the cold at the bus stop.
The “Wing in the New Year “ Program started in Prince Albert in 1989 and has provided over 10,000 safe and free rides home.
