It’s the tail end of the big, bad 1980s in Hollywood, and the party has been raging hard. Aqua Net, Lycra, lace, and liquor flow freely at one of the Sunset Strips last legendary venues, a place where sex machine Stacee Jaxx takes the stage and scantily clad groupies line up to turn their fantasies into reality. Amidst the madness, aspiring rock star (and resident toilet cleaner) Drew longs to take the stage as the next big thing (and longs for small-town girl Sherri, fresh off the bus from Kansas with stars in her eyes).
But the rock 'n' roll fairy tale is about to end when German developers sweep into town with plans to turn the fabled Strip into just another capitalist strip mall. Can Drew, Sherri and the gang save the strip – and themselves – before it's too late? Featuring a cast of over 20 local performers, you won't stop believing in rock 'n roll Brought to you by Canadian Tire.
Adult tickets are $38, student/senior tickets $33.
Matinees are at 2pm on August 21st and 27th.
** This performance contains mature themes.
Curated and organized by the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery with funding assistance from the City of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan Arts Board, SaskCulture, Saskatchewan Lotteries, and the Canada Council for the Arts. This exhibition is toured through OSAC’s Arts on the Move program and is at the John V. Hicks Gallery (at the Arts Centre) until August 23rd.
This exhibition features the paintings, sculptures and craft objects of folk artist, Frank Cicansky, in dialogue with the ceramics and sculptural work of his son, internationally renowned artist, Victor Cicansky. The presentation of these artists’ works together offers an opportunity to consider the shared values, creative drives and narratives of memory, place and origin that inform both of their artistic practices. Together these works reflect a sincere and compelling response to place, offering immigrant narratives of first and second-generation settler Canadians in southern Saskatchewan, while also exploring the influential connections between our province’s folk art and funk art genres.

David LaRiviere is a mixed media artist of European settler decent who grew up in Edmonton, Alberta. LaRiviere challenges the notion of “border” through large-scale installations and photographs that “offer a safe place to contemplate the decolonization of Treaty Six, the overturning of white suprematism, and other colonial impediments to our survival” (LaRiviere’s artist statement).
Tracy Fehr is a Métis mixed media artist from Manitoba descended from the Red River Settlement (St Boniface, St Norbert, Pembina). Fehr uses textiles, embroidery and found and worn fabrics help her articulate the lived experiences of family and to embody social, cultural and political aspects of Métis life.
Leah Marie Dorion is an interdisciplinary Métis artist raised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. A teacher, painter, filmmaker and published writer, Dorion views her Métis heritage as providing her with a unique bridge for knowledge between all people. This exhibition is curated by our summer Collections Assistant, Milo Adair, and will feature 36 artworks from our permanent collection; these works were generously gifted to the Mann Art Gallery in 2015 by Dorion.
Métis folklore is rich with monsters, trickster spirits, “little” people and other fantastic beings – mixing Algonquian and Western European traditions. The “Little People” or May-may-quay-so-wuk, are spirits who live along river banks and are close cousins to “Little People” found in cultures around the world. Go see the new temporary exhibit at the north end of the EA Rawlinson Centre at 142 12th Street West.
