Following evaluation of the Re-open Saskatchewan plan last week and consultation with the Government of Saskatchewan the City of Prince Albert is able to provide updates on several outdoor facilities. “Temperatures are warming up and we are seeing people out and about more. It’s important to get out for some fresh air and exercise, but we still need to be cautious in public spaces,” said Mayor Dionne. “Parks remain open but we will consider further measures if we see that physical distancing is not being practiced.”
Parks, Open Spaces, Trails and Sports Fields
Parks, trails and public spaces remain open. The Kinsmen skateboard park, basketball courts, tennis courts and playground structures in all parks are closed.
Bookings for all of the City’s outdoor sports fields will not be taken for at least the months of May and June. When using these outdoor spaces the City would like residents to take note of the following directives:
- Stay two metres apart at all times (On the Rotary Trail and other pathways you may have to move off the path to pass)
- Practice physical distancing by walking alone or only with your family or the people you live with
- Look ahead and choose the least busy pathway possible
- Avoid touching shared surfaces like benches and railings
- Do not touch your face and wash your hands when you return home
- Do not gather in groups over 10.If you stop to talk, keep 2 metres apart
- Avoid group sports and activities (games, soccer, ball, etc) unless with your family or people you live with.
- If you are sick, stay home. Do not use parks or any public spaces.
Failure to practice physical distancing may result in the loss of public access to these spaces.
School Playgrounds
The City of Prince Albert is working in consultation with the City’s school boards regarding the closure of all school playground structures in the City.
Kinsmen Water Park
The Kinsmen Water Park was scheduled to open June 5th, but given gathering restrictions, the Water Park will be closed for at least the month of June. The City is evaluating the feasibility of opening later in the summer and announcements will be made when available.
Playground Program
The annual playground program is scheduled to start July 2nd but again, given gathering restrictions, this plan is in the process of being evaluated and further announcements will be made when available.
Cooke Municipal Golf Course
The Golf Course is currently closed. The condition of the course given the late spring will delay the opening beyond May 15, the approved date in the ReOpen Saskatchewan Plan. A review of the restrictions the golf course will be under through the ReOpen Plan is being conducted and more announcements will be made soon.
All of these amenities, with the exception of the Golf Course, are in phase 4 of the ReOpen Saskatchewan Plan. “While we remain optimistic, it seems unlikely we will be in a position to make any changes to these directives through the summer,” said Jody Boulet, Community Services Director for the City of Prince Albert. “Of course, we continue to evaluate the feasibility of changes for July and August and will work to get updates to the public as soon as they are available.“
