Work the By-Election
|
The City of Prince Albert hires for a variety of positions during the by-election including supervisory deputy returning officers, deputy returning officers and poll clerks.

The following chart outlines the rates for all election workers, including the training time at a flat rate of $40 per session. Reimbursement for mileage claims relating to supervisory and mobile poll workers will be approved at a rate of $0.5078 per km.

Position Duties |
Each position has a different set of responsibilities and qualifications. Please see the Responsibilities and Qualifications for Election Positions for more detail on each position.
General Requirements for all positions
To be an election worker you must be 18 years of age or older and demonstrate the following core competencies:
- basic literacy skills
- basic interpersonal skills including the ability to exercise impartiality
- ability to serve voters that require assistance
- ability to perform repetitive tasks
- basic math skills
- basic analytical skills
- good attention to detail
- ability to follow directions and standards
- ability to learn in a short time frame
- be prepared to work from the setting up, opening, closing, and cleanup of polls on Election Day, without leaving the facility for any reason, which is approximately 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. (with the exception of Advance Poll and Special Poll workers)
- attend all required training provided

Training Required |
Training is mandatory for all election workers including those that have attended in the past at the base wage for every position. All workers are required to attend a minimum of one (1) training session lasting approximately three (3) hours, on a specified date at a specified location.
Supervisory Deputy Returning Officers will be required to attend two (2) training sessions.

Request to work with a friend/family member |
You can indicate your preference on the application form and the Returning Officer will try to accommodate your request. However, we cannot guarantee that you will be placed in your polling area or with your friend/family member. The Returning Officer and all election officials have an obligation to ensure the election process is not compromised in any way. Therefore, the Returning Officer may use her discretion to ensure that the appropriate workers are assigned to the appropriate positions and polling places. |
Successful Candidates |
You will be notified if you have been selected as a successful applicant as an election worker. Hiring priority will be given to suitable persons who have prior electoral experience, and meet the required qualifications.
If you are selected as a successful applicant, the City Clerk's Office will provide you with a formal letter, advising you of the time for the required training session(s) and any other necessary details. Email is the preferred method of communication.
It is expected successful applicants will be notified by late April.

Who can Vote
|
Qualifications of a voter
A voter must reside within Ward 8; or must be the owner of assessable land in Ward 8 of the City.
A person can be registered as a voter in a municipality if he/she, on election day:
- is a Canadian citizen;
- is the full age of 18 years; and,
- has resided in Saskatchewan for at least six (6) consecutive months immediately preceding the day of the election, and one (1) of the following:
- has resided in the City or on land now in the City for at least three (3) consecutive months immediately preceding the day of the election; OR
- is the owner of assessable land situated in the City or of land now situated in the City or on land now in the City for at least three (3) consecutive months immediately preceding the day of the election.
Non-Resident Electors
If you do not live in Prince Albert, but are the owner of assessable land in Ward 8 of Prince Albert for at least three (3) consecutive months immediately preceding the day of the election, you can vote.

How to Vote
|
There are a number of ways to vote in the Ward 8 By-Election.
Mail-in Ballots
|
Mail-in ballots are provided as an option for voters to avoid an in-person trip to vote on election day. Eligible voters wishing to vote by mail can register to vote and apply for a mail-in ballot. Once registered, eligible voters will then receive a ballot package in the mail after nomination day which is to be completed and mailed back. Mail-in ballots must be received at the Election Office before 8:00 p.m. on election day in order to be counted.

Mail-in Ballot Package
To register, you can print the Mail-In Ballot Package or attend the Election Office, 2nd Floor, City Hall between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, to complete your registration form. The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot package is May 17, 2023.
When you apply, you will need to complete the following:
- Fill out and sign the Voter Registration Form and Declaration.
- Have someone from the Approved List of Witnesses verify your photo identification and witness your registration form.
- Send the Election Office your complete registration form (including your signature and witness signature) and a copy of all required government issued photo ID. You can use one of the following:
- Email the application to the Election Office;
- Attach your completed form and ID using the online submission; or
- Mail to/Drop off at: Elections, 1084 Central Avenue, Prince Albert, SK S6V 7P3
The deadline to submit your application is May 17, 2023.

Accepted Registrations |
Once processed, you will be contacted to let you know if your application has been accepted. If accepted, a mail-in ballot package with instructions will be mailed to you in early May. |
Instructions for Witnesses |
As the person who witnesses the voter's signature on the Voter Registration and Declaration of Person Requesting Mail-in Ballot Form, you will need to review the applicant's ID and confirm that you are satisfied that the voter's identity has been established. |

Homebound Voting
|
Homebound Voting Application
A Mobile Poll has been established only for those voters with physical disabilities or limited mobility, along with the resident caregiver of that voter.
Each applicant will be notified by the Returning Officer of the specific time when an Election Official will visit the residence.
The eligible voter(s) will be required to complete the Voter Registration Form and show the required identification prior to voting.
Send the Election Office your completed application form. You can use one of the following:
- Email the application to the Election Office; or
- Mail to/Drop off at: Elections, 1084 Central Avenue, Prince Albert, SK S6V 7P3
The deadline to submit your application is May 17, 2023.

Advance Polls
|
Advance polls are organized to allow for voting opportunities prior to Election Day. All advance polls will be held at the Alfred Jenkins Field House (2787 10th Ave West), 2nd Floor, AODBT Room, on the following dates and times:
- May 18, 2023 - 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- May 27, 2023 - 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Election Day Polls
|
Ward 8 Polls are open 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Arthur Pechey School (2675 - 4th Avenue West).
To avoid line-ups at the Polls, print and fill out the Voter Registration Form prior to attending. Voters must sign the form in front of an Election Official at the Poll.
The Victoria Hospital will also have a poll available on Election Day for 1 hour for any patients that reside within Ward 8. (Time to be determined)

Voters with Disabilities
|
There are different options available for eligible voters with disabilities. You can:
- bring a friend to assist at your designated regular poll;
- you can request an Election Official to assist at their designated regular poll; or
- Fill out an application for Homebound Voting before May 17, 2023.
