The Golden Shovel Awards have been introduced to raise awareness of the need to help neighbours clear snow from their sidewalks, especially if they are elderly or have health or mobility restrictions.
Lend a Hand
If you have a neighbor that has mobility restrictions, lend a hand by clearing their sidewalks in the winter.
Nominate Someone
If you have a neighbor, a friend or a relative that clears your sidewalk in the winter consider nominating them for the City’s Golden Shovel Awards. All you have to do is write a letter to the City telling us your story.
The Good Samaritan will receive a letter from the Mayor of Prince Albert thanking them on behalf of the entire City for making the extra effort to not only clear the sidewalk for their neighbour, but for all the pedestrians, mail carriers and meter readers that use the sidewalks throughout the winter.
The Good Samaritan will also receive a golden key chain as a token of the City’s appreciation, and their name will be entered into a draw to receive one of the following prizes:
- a $100 gift certificate to the Alfred Jenkins Fieldhouse;
- a $100 gift certificate for the Rawlinson Centre;
- vouchers for six Raider Hockey Games;
- two adult green fees at the Cooke Municipal Golf Course
The City will start accepting nominations in January.
