Sign types include the following:
- Permanent Sign means a sign which is permanently fixed to the ground with a footing.

- Facia Sign means a sign which is attached to, mark or inscribed on any parallel face of a building.
- Portable Sign means a sign which is capable of being moved from site to site. Please note that portable signs without a valid permit are subject to a $100.00 fine.

- Third Party Sign means a sign that directs attention to a business, commodity, service or entertainment that is conducted, sold or offered at a location other than the premises on which the sign is located. Third party advertising is permitted with permanent signs only provided that total signage size limits and all requirements of the sign regulations pertaining to the site are complied with.
A Sign Permit Application can be applied for at the Planning and Economic Development Department, 3rd Floor, City Hall. The application is to be accompanied by:
- the legal description of land
- the civic address
- a site plan showing the location of the sign
- an elevation of the sign which includes height and area of sign
- a description and location of any existing sign. The application is reviewed to ensure compliance with the Zoning Bylaw.
