Portable Sign Permits - Non-Profit Organizations

If you are a non-profit organization looking to put up a portable sign you must first obtain a permit from the City of Prince Albert. You can download a Portable Sign Permit application form from the Applications Page.

Before you submit your application, you should do the following:

  1. Determine if the property is an approved zone. Permitted zones are noted below (contact the Planning Department if you are unsure);
  2. Obtain written permission from the property owner;
  3. Have a non-profit registry number; and
  4. Obtain written confirmation from any sponsors that are displayed on the sign.

Portable signs for Non-Profit organizations are subject to the following requirements (as detailed in Bylaw 22 of 2010 under the Zoning Bylaw which can be found on the Bylaws page):

  1. They can be put on City, commercial, industrial, park, institutional or institutional general zone. They are not permitted on residential property. If you already have a location in mind and you are unsure about whether it is in a permitted zone, you can check the zoning map or contact the planning department and they can check for you.
  2. Written permission from the property owner must be obtained.
  3. The sign must be for community based non-profit events only. They cannot be used for the sale or promotion of goods or services for profit.
  4. A non-profit registry number will be required when making an application for a permit.
  5. Sponsor logos may be displayed provided that City Administration is supplied with the name of each company displayed and written confirmation that the company is a sponsor of the organization. No other text may be supplied in relation to the sponsorship company.

By submitting an application, you agree to comply with all regulations outlined in City bylaws.

Enforcement

 If a sign is in violation of one of these regulations, or if it is found to be in place without a permit a ticket in the amount of $150 will be issued. In addition, a fine not exceeding $2000 for an individual and a fine not exceeding $5000 for a corporation may apply.

Enforcement details are outlined in section 29 of Bylaw 22 of 2010.
