The Communications Office is responsible for delivering timely, accurate and relevant information regarding city services, programs and council decisions to Prince Albert residents. Through a variety of mediums, and through cooperation with the local media, information is disseminated to the public realm.
Typical mediums used to inform the public include:
- The City newsletter, The Citizen, which is distributed quarterly in the Prince Albert Shopper;
- The City Page that appears in the Prince Albert Daily Herald every Saturday;
- Media releases that are distributed weekly and posted online and sent to the media.
The Communications Office provides a degree of centralization to the communications function at City Hall. Each City department maintains responsibility for the distribution of the communications material that is relevant to their activites, programs and services. The Communications office serves as a liaison between City Hall and media and advertising agencies and often provides assistance and advice to departments when required.
Topics that require communication to the public include:
- City services such as recycling, road closures, permits, bylaw regulations, free landfill days, etc.
- City facilities and programs such as the Rotary Trail, Kinsmen Water Park, Cooke Golf Course, community clubs, swimming lessons, etc.
- Decisions of Council including policy changes, major infrastructure projects, strategic decisions, budget information, etc.
