Prince Albert once again ranks in the top third of 133 cities in the KPMG Competitive Alternatives Study released on March 21, 2012. Out of 133 national and international cities, Prince Albert ranked 25th for cost competitiveness. Prince Albert's rankings were particularly strong when compared against 33 midwest US and Western Canadian cities, ranking 2nd in the cost competitiveness category. Out of all 31 Canadian Cities, Prince Albert ranked 11th.

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) surveyed 100 Canadian cities measuring core statistics such as business start-ups and self-employment as well as direct measures of business climate such as the perspective of business owners on ability to generate business and views on local governance in rating the effectiveness of public policy on business. The CFIB evaluates cities across the country on three key measures:
- Policy, which encompasses tax and regulatory policies;
- presence, which reflects the concentration of entrepreneurs and business startups; and
- perspective, which gauges the optimism and success of actual small business owners.

Prince Albert has made the top 100 list in the MoneySense magazine ranking of the best places to live in Canada. The magazine looked at 190 towns or cities around the country with a population of at least 10,000 residents. Then they were ranked according to a complex set of criteria that factored in everything from household income to crime rate and weather.
Prince Albert ranked 68th last year which is up from the 2010 ranking of 116.
